CSS Credits: In the sidebar/bottom of this CSS, I have a little credit section. Please leave it where it is. I have spent a lot of time on this CSS and keeping it up-to-date for people. The credits are there for a reason.

Thank you ;)

-------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT UPDATES: I have updated the CSS and images. This is due to the new user pages. The colours were blending too much, so I added a border, and on expanded journals, alignment was off (also fixed).

It's important you update the CSS and images (if you're hosting your own) if you are a beta tester and using the new user pages (read here for new user pages information and how to turn them on).

Since I know not everyone will want to turn on the new user pages, I have included the original CSS and images in the zip. However, when the new user pages are out of beta testing, you will need to update the CSS/images.

If you know someone using this CSS and new user pages, please let them know it has been updated :D

You can see the updates to the CSS by visiting my user page or via the links below.

-------------------------------------------

I've been working on this for a couple of days and am now ready to give it to everyone to start using. I was actually making this for myself but after some persuasion, I decided I'd release it instead.

You can see everything the CSS is about right there in the preview. But for those that prefer working versions:

:pointr: Sidebar Version
:pointr: Basic (no sidebar) Version

-------------------------------------------

Updates

23/07 - Changed the width of heading.gif and v6top.gif to 1700px for larger resolutions. Also fixed the sidebar.txt file as I accidentally put mine in there!

22/07 - I have added a basic styling for the thumbs for those that don't wish to use individual classes for thumbs. You can find this style in the CSS folder as thumbs-basic.css. To use it, you only need to wrap your thumbs in < div class="thumbs-basic" >< /div > (no spaces). A preview can be seen in the sidebar version.

Added more to the readme about lists in journals. I've also put the readme online if you want to read it there: [link]

-------------------------------------------

Important:

Please be sure to read the readme in the "Read Me" folder (open it in a browser). This readme has a lot of information about how to use the CSS (yes, it is geared towards beginners).

For those that are comfortable with both HTML and CSS, you could ignore the readme.

Please host the images yourself!

I don't mind if you use my hosted images, though would prefer if people did host them themselves if they have their own webspace :) Note that Photobucket does resize images, so if you only have that option, use my hosted images.

All the necessary files are included in the download:

    CSS (folder)
    * mcv6css-sidebar.css
    * mcv6css-nosidebar.css
    * mcv6css-sidebar-commented.css
    * mcv6css-nosidebar-commented.css
    * thumbs-basic.css

    HTML (folder)
    * sidebar.txt
    * no-sidebar.txt
    * body.txt
    * body-nosidebar.txt
    * footer.txt

    images (folder)
    Read Me (folder)
    MessageCentreOriginal (folder)

I've included commented CSS so that you can have some rough guidelines. Don't use the commented CSS in the journal as it will not work.

Open .css and .txt files in WordPad to keep the formatting. I don't recommend opening in NotePad. Anything else like Dreamweaver or Aptana is even better.

-------------------------------------------

Testing:

I've tested this as much as I can: Firefox 3, Internet Explorer 7, Opera 9.50 and Safari 3.1.1 (for Windows). I have not tested it in Internet Explorer 6.

It works pretty much great across the board with a few tiny quirks in IE7 which is here nor there as it's still functioning properly.

Known Issue(s):

There is one known issue with the thumbnails

This issue has been fixed. Granted, the fix isn't great for IE7 and add's a fixed height and scrollbar to the thumbs section. But it works for Firefox sweet.

-------------------------------------------

Thank yous:

`zetab - for using this from pretty much the time I started creating it. Thank you for the ideas and adjustments you recommended. I couldn't have got it to a finished product without your input! :heart:

Also thanks to `zetab for the new preview image :love:

`thespook - Helping with overflow:auto to fix the thumb issue :heart:

For the DD! :faint: Many thanks to =robinism (and the others who suggested it, too) for suggesting it and to `DCZed for featuring it :heart:

-------------------------------------------

Additional Info:

I've decided not to release the second version afterall, and instead concentrate on doing other journal CSS.

This is actually just the first version. There is a second "Feature" version I am working on and will have up soon. I just need to work out a couple of issues.

Hope you enjoy it.

And one last thing: Read the read me. :giggle:
Daily Deviation, 2008-07-22

Daily DeviationMessage Centre v6 Journal CSS by `nyssi has been suggested by a few people and it's quite obvious to see why. The idea is fantastic for a start, but the way it has been executed, with two versions to choose from, is even better, and I'd say practically flawless! Finally you have it up! :faint: The problem is, I'm not sure there's anything I can say about it that I haven't said already lol. You know I love this to pieces.

When you first showed me this I was rather excited about it because I knew it had potential. Seeing it go through many stages and tweaks has been awesome and the finished product is fantastic. I don't think there's anything more you could do to it to make it look better (apart from the "Feature" version that I want so bad lol).

My favourite is the sidebar version because it's simply spiffy, but the non sidebar version looks great as well and clean at that. I'm glad you did both versions!

I know you've worked hard on this and went through many frustrating moments just to get this out for everyone to be able to use. You've done a lovely job. Hell, even the presentation looks yummy haha. In my opinion, this is your best CSS to date. Thanks so much for this and it was a pleasure to help a little here and there :heart:

Woah, this is SO awesome! I've actually stopped using journal CSS (only link colours) because nothing really is the standard I want, and i'm much too lazy to create anything good enough. This, however, is way past anything anyone could produce! I think you should be really proud of yourself, and even more so for letting us use this. :excited: :heart:

Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody's going to know whether you did it or not.
This is awesome! At first I thought a journal design based off of the message center would be a little odd, but it really looks amazing and works well with the rest of the dA pages while still standing out and looking really interesting! It must have been challenging to port to a journal skin, and the end product really shows you've done an excellent job. :thumbsup:

It looks fantastic, Nyssa! I'm with Zeta, my favourite is the sidebar one too, although both do look equally fantastic.

What I think I really like about it, is the cleaness of it; although there's quite a lot in there, it doesn't look cluttered at all. It fits so nicely with the profile page too; it makes the journal noticable and awesome and compliments the rest of the page beautifully.

Nice job. :heart:

Dark matter flowing out on to a tape...
bonsai! I was thinking of making a message center skin myself, but I'm enthralled to see you've gone and done it first :D

So. I downloaded it and sent the images to my own web space so I can test the journal, and I changed the URL's and paste everything into a test journal - but it seems the image v6top.gif wasn't included in the archive! :(

I'll send this comment now, so that as I write my longer comment you can fix the archive before too many people download it and then pester you about it being broken.

:thumbsup:
Thanks for letting me know :D I knew I would leave something out.

okay, so I've used it a little, and now I can comment further :)

Firstly, I didn't mention it in my first comment, but it looks great, and I think it works absolutely wonderful as a journal skin. You've done an awesome job of translating it.

I do see a lot of clearing divs everywhere though - do you know about using overflow:auto/hidden instead? I'm not sure if this works in IE7, but it should work in all other modern browsers. What it does is kinda trigger a container to check if it is the right size for any floated elements within it - saving the need for a clearing div. By taking out the clearing div from the thumb block, I was able to place them at the top :)

I also found a div at the top of the sidebar code named 'header-side' - it's empty at first, but after I filled it with something it seems I'm not meant to ;p - it places text at the top right of the journal rather oddly.

I think you could make featuring thumbs simpler by dropping the need for a class name on the 'thumb' divs... but now I'm just getting nitpicky - people are going to LOVE this :hug:
It's amazing how this looks exactly like the v6 theme... I can see a lot of patience and reference work went into this...

You're amazing :heart:
